Concours History
As the group looked for ways to not only raise money, but to raise awareness of one of the largest child welfare services agencies in Kentucky, many ideas were put on the table. After some discussion, the idea of staging a Concours d’Elegance was posed. Being familiar with concours and their growing popularity, excitement quickly grew within this group. Each of the volunteers brought a wealth of expertise to the table. There were experienced party and event planners, people with expertise in sponsorship procurement, and, of course, a common love of beautiful and historic concours automobiles. Thus was born the Louisville Concours d’ Elegance Executive Committee. Many sites around Louisville were proposed, but the committee ultimately chose Churchill Downs because of its rich history, tradition, and aesthetic beauty. Churchill Downs seemed a natural fit. Taking place each year just before Churchill Downs’ Fall meet, the Louisville Concours d’Elegance combines the best in “Horses and Horsepower” and showcases one of the Southeast’s finest cities, during one of it’s most beautiful seasons. |
In October, 2007, a small group of volunteers gathered together with the idea of creating a yearly signature event for their favorite charity – Brooklawn Child & Family Services. Each member had committed themselves to Brooklawn and the wonderful work the agency does to help emotionally-troubled children and their families.
