Brooklawn Child & Family Services

brooklawn logoThe benefactor of The Louisville Concours d’ Elegance is Brooklawn Child & Family Services, a non-profit psychiatric treatment center for children who suffer from the horrible affects of abuse, neglect or other severe trauma.

Founded as an orphanage in 1851, for the children of Louisville’s growing German immigrant population, Brooklawn provides comprehensive care, treatment, and education for children and youth with serious emotional disturbances, and is one of the largest agencies of its kind in the state of Kentucky. Children admitted to Brooklawn have often been victims of severe abuse, neglect or other trauma and, oftentimes, they have been separated not only from their birth family, but have had the additional trauma of rejections from adoptive and foster parents.

Brooklawn is fortunate to have a talented and dedicated clinical staff, skilled at treating these difficult-to-serve children and youth. Our outcomes are among the best in the state. Treatment programs provide individual, group and family therapy, special education and vocational training, and a broad array of recreational activities. All of this is within the environment of caring staff and volunteers who seek to heal these emotionally wounded children and youth.

Sadly, as the need for alternatives to psychiatric hospitalization has grown, so has Brooklawn. Today, our residential programs serve approximately 115 boys, ages 5 to 18, from across the Commonwealth of Kentucky without regard to race, creed or national origin. Brooklawn is one of the larger non-profit health and human services organizations in the community.
